BERT
AGE: Senior
MY STORY: Hi, I'm Bert. I came into rescue via a shelter. Another rescue pulled me from the shelter but then didn't have a foster home for me, so they turned me over to GABR. I'm just happy to have a nice, warm place to sleep. I'm on the skinny side but my foster mom is working on fattening me up. I get along well with the other dogs in my foster home, but I am less fond of the young and crazy ones. I do great with children, though!
HOUSEBROKEN? Yes
TRAINING? No formal training, but I am well behaved!
GOOD WITH CHILDREN? Yes
GOOD WITH DOGS? Yes, but I would do best with a larger dog in my approximate age range (in other words, I'm not super fond of small dogs).
GOOD WITH CATS? No
CONTACT: If you are interested in adopting me . . .

BREEZIE **ADOPTION PENDING!!**
AGE: Approximately ten months
MY STORY: Hi! My name is Breezie. I came into rescue through a local shelter as a stray. (Who would lose track of a cute girl like me, huh?) I do know some basic commands (but most of the time I am moving much too fast to be able to hear them). I am crate trained and housebroken. My foster mom says that I am a bit of a wild monkey, though I say I am just young and happy with life. I like to play with other dogs A LOT and I have heard my foster mom say that I am a "physical player" (like there is any other kind!). I have to have minor surgery on the 17th (spay) and then I will be all set to wreak havoc, I mean, settle into my new home.
HOUSEBROKEN? Yes
TRAINING? Obedience classes are a requirement for adopting me. (The rescue requires obedience classes for all dogs under three.)
GOOD WITH CHILDREN? I came into rescue as a stray and for safety reasons the rescue does not place stray dogs in homes with small children. Although Boxers are generally known to be good with children, applicants with children under the age of five should limit their search to dogs that have a proven history with small children.
GOOD WITH DOGS? Yes
GOOD WITH CATS? Well, there are two here in my foster home but most of the time I hear "Breezie, STOP CHASING THE CATS!" So, if you have a VERY dog savvy cat yes, otherwise it' probably not the best idea. I don't want to hurt them . . . just chase them.

CHLOE
AGE: One and a half
MY STORY: Hi, I'm Chloe! I am a cute white Boxer girl with a lot of joie de vivre! I was surrendered to a shelter and then the shelter people called the rescue people. I was surrendered because I am deaf and my former family didn't have a fenced yard. Like most dogs, I don't have an innate understanding of property boundaries so I guess I wandered off a few times. So, in my new home I will need: a fenced yard (you probably guessed that one!), a hearing dog to be my friend, and an owner who is willing to take me to obedience classes. My foster mom says that I'm a very sweet girl. I looooove to give kisses. I enjoy playing with the boy Boxer who lives in my foster home. There's a three-year-old kid here and I like her a lot, too. My foster mom also wanted me to tell you that living with a deaf dog is not a big deal like you might think. When she wants my attention, she just flips a light switch or stomps on the floor. She gives me a hand signal and then I try to do whatever she asked me to do. However, sometimes I ignore her but that has nothing to do with my deafness and everything to do with me being only one year old and having my own agenda.
HOUSEBROKEN? Yes, but when you let me outside sometimes you have to remind me of why you sent me out there. Otherwise, I will assume you sent me out there to play and I'll just do that instead. It's kind of like when you wander around the house looking for your keys and then eventually you forget what you were looking for.
TRAINING? Obedience classes are a requirement for adopting me. (The rescue requires obedience classes for all dogs under three.)
GOOD WITH CHILDREN? Yes, there is a three-year-old kid in my foster home.
GOOD WITH DOGS? Yes
GOOD WITH CATS? Possibly

CHUBS
AGE: Four
MY STORY: Hi, I'm Chubs! Yes, Chubs, as in . . . chubby. I really prefer the term "husky," though. My foster mom said something about "long walks" and "ration reductions" and "getting in shape." Hmph! I was surrendered to rescue after my former home flooded (I lived in one of the unlucky parts of the state that was hit very hard with the recent storms). I was getting pretty stressed out with everything that happened and all the workers coming in and out of my home, but I'm happy to be on solid (dry) ground now. I'm busy settling into my new foster home and getting to know everyone here.
HOUSEBROKEN? Yes
TRAINING? No formal training, but I am well behaved.
GOOD WITH CHILDREN? Yes, but I would do best with older children.
GOOD WITH DOGS? Yes
GOOD WITH CATS? Not known

DJ **ADOPTION PENDING!!**
AGE: Ten months
MY STORY: Hi, I'm DJ. I came into rescue with a broken foot. My former owner could not afford the surgery, so he surrendered me to rescue. I had surgery shortly after arriving. All of my toes on my left rear leg were broken, so I've got some hardware in there for now. And I'm sporting a cast. My pins will be removed in a couple of weeks. I expect to be available for adoption in late May or early June. My foster family says that I can have visitors now, though. I'm a very nice dog and can't wait to run and play in my new home!
HOUSEBROKEN? Yes

GRACIE, CGC
[All of us at GABR would like to congratulate Gracie on passing the Canine Good Citizen test at the Boxer Bash! ]
AGE: Approximately eight
MY STORY: You lookin' at me? I caught ya! Spend some time with me and I will steal your heart! I am beautiful lady who is just waitin' for the perfect home to come along. I enjoy quiet evenings at home, long walks, fine kibble, and I will never miss out on the opportunity to lounge at your feet while you watch American Gladiators or the Packers on t.v. I can tell you I have wonderful manners and am a lot of fun to spend time with. I am great with kids and other dogs. As for the wild turkeys that keep showing up at our bird feeders here, I say, "let me at 'em!" I may chase cats, squirrels, or wild turkeys, if given the chance.
HOUSEBROKEN? Yes
TRAINING? No formal training, but I am very well behaved.
GOOD WITH CHILDREN? Yes [Note from GABR: Normally our stray clause would apply but in Gracie's case we had an opportunity to temperament test her beforehand and confirm that she is good with children. It is unknown whether Gracie is good with infants and toddlers, so families with very young children should seek a dog with a known history.]
GOOD WITH DOGS? Yes
GOOD WITH CATS? Yes, for the most part

LANCER **ADOPTION PENDING!!**
AGE: Approximately 14 months
MY STORY: My name is Lancer and I'm a big, hugabaloo of a Boxer. My foster mom says I'm a typical, young, male Boxer. That's a positive thing, right? There are several other dogs in my foster home and I get along with them all. I'm slowly learning some hand signals and basic obedience stuff, but I'd much rather just run around and play. You need to know that I'm extra special because I'm deaf. The rescue folks have a few extra requirements if you want to adopt me. I need: 1) a hearing companion, 2) a completely, above-ground fenced in yard, and 3) a commitment to take me to obedience classes. If you are ready for a barrel of fun, I might be the Boxer for you.
HOUSEBROKEN? Yes
TRAINING? My foster mom is working on hand signals with me. I'm very astute, especially if she has a treat in her hand. Obedience classes are a requirement for adopting me. (The rescue requires obedience classes for all dogs under three.)
GOOD WITH CHILDREN? Yes, however, I might do best with older children as I can easily topple little ones over.
GOOD WITH DOGS? Yes
GOOD WITH CATS? Yes. I lived with cats previously, but there are no cats in my home

MIA
AGE: One
MY STORY: Hey there! I'm a new arrival. I was surrendered to the rescue due to financial reasons. I'm a very petite little girl. There should be a picture of me under the word "cute" in the dictionary. There are a few things you should know about me. I'm deaf, so I have a few additional requirements if you want to adopt me. My new home must have a hearing dog to act as my ears and a completely, above ground fenced-in yard. My new family must agree to take me to obedience classes so we can learn hand signals together. You should also know I don't like to be alone very much. I've been through a couple of homes already and I really need my next home to be my last. I can be crated, but I tend to make a fuss when I'm first put in a crate. I would love a Boxer brother to play with. And did I mention that I am cute?
HOUSEBROKEN? Well, that's a toughie. My former family said I was housebroken, but I've had some accidents at my foster home.
TRAINING? Obedience classes are a requirement for adopting me. (The rescue requires obedience classes for all dogs under three.)
GOOD WITH CHILDREN? Yes
GOOD WITH DOGS? Yes
GOOD WITH CATS? Maybe. There was a cat in my former home and I chased it, but I didn't hurt it. My current foster home does not have any cats.

RHETT
AGE: Approximately two
MY STORY: Hey there, I'm Rhett (and frankly, my dear, I do give a darn . . . in case you wondered). I came into rescue as a stray. I'm a nice boy and I love to play! I'd love to find a new home with another dog in it. A couple of little details about me . . . I do have this thing attached to my butt. But, I am a purebred Boxer so don't pass me by just because of that (can I get an amen? Holl-a!) Also, my leg was apparently broken in my previous life and no one had it fixed (and it's already healed, so it can't be repaired now). So while I may have a little hitch in my giddyup sometimes, the leg does not bother me or slow me down at all! Oh, and while I'm technically not supposed to be placed with small children because I was a stray, I have had an opportunity to meet lots of nice kids while I've been in rescue. So, kids over 4 would be fine. Thanks for checking me out!
HOUSEBROKEN? Yes

STAR
AGE: Approximately four
MY STORY: My name is Star or "Velcro" as my foster mom affectionately calls me. I just want to be close and give lots of kisses. I came into rescue through a shelter as a stray. The nice folks at rescue fixed my ear, because I had a large hematoma from an ear infection. My ears are clearing up and I am ready to find a forever home. I haven't met a person, child, cat or dog I haven't liked. I just love everyone. My foster mom and dad say I am the sweetest girl they have ever met. I love to cuddle on the couch with my foster dad at night.
I like to play with my foster boxer brothers, I especially like tennis balls. I am crate trained and know all of the basic obedience commands.
HOUSEBROKEN? Yes
TRAINING? I know all of my basic commands and listen very well.
GOOD WITH CHILDREN? I came into rescue as a stray and for safety reasons the rescue does not place stray dogs in homes with small children. TOM TOM **ADOPTION PENDING!!**
AGE: Approximately four
MY STORY: Hi! My name is Tom Tom. Or you can call me Tommy Boy, or Tom, or Tommy Tutone, or really, whatever you want. I came into rescue as a stray. My foster mom says I'm a goofy, happy boy and that I love to lay on a lap if I can find one. I'm very energetic and love to play. I'm also very sweet. I'm an all-around great dog, if I do say so myself.
HOUSEBROKEN? Yes
TRAINING? I know a few basic commands, like sit and shake.
GOOD WITH CHILDREN? I came into rescue as a stray and for safety reasons the rescue does not place stray dogs in homes with small children. **What does "Adoption Pending" mean? It means that an applicant is in the process of adopting the dog. Sometimes you may see this designation next to a dog's name for several weeks. Although the adoption process usually only takes a week or so, there are some cases where we have to wait for a dog to complete a medical treatment (or finish a heat cycle) before we can place the dog.
